USCCB Chairmen Praise Supreme Court Decision Recognizing the Right of the Church to Choose Its Own Leaders

July 8, 2020

WASHINGTON –The Supreme Court of the United States has issued its decision in the consolidated cases of Our Lady of Guadalupe School v. Morrissey-Berru and St. James School v. Biel. These cases involved the right of Catholic schools, free of government interference, to choose teachers who will teach and model the Catholic faith. By a vote of 7-2, the Court ruled in favor of the schools.

Annabelle Baltierra joins Board of Directors

NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF CHURCH PERSONNEL ADMINISTRATORS NAMES ANNABELLE BALTIERRA TO BOARD OF DIRECTORS
Alexandria, Virginia —The National Association of Church Personnel Administrators (NACPA) has named Annabelle Baltierra, SPHR, SHRM-SCP, Senior Director of Human Resources, Archdiocese of Los Angeles (ADLA) to its Board of Directors.
The announcement was made by Reverend Edward T. Pratt, chairman of NACPA’s board.
NACPA represents Human Resource Directors, Finance Directors, Chancellors, School Administrators and other Church leaders in arch/dioceses nationwide and has as its mission “to promote justice in the workplace.”
“We’re grateful to Annabelle for accepting this leadership role in our association,” said Rev. Pratt. “Her experience serving the Los Angeles Archdiocese for the past six years will be invaluable to NACPA.”
Prior to joining ADLA, Ms. Baltierra was Director of Human Resources for the California Institute of the Arts founded by Walt Disney. She also has been a member of the Adjunct Faculty of LA Valley College for more than 16 years.
“Annabelle is well known for her interest in promoting the HR industry and mentoring individuals in their work. We are grateful that she immediately joined the association’s Webinar committee to promote professional development,”

NACPA Responds to August 2019 Tragedies

NACPA joins individuals and organizations in the U.S. and worldwide in reaching out with compassion and prayers for the victims and the families and friends of those lost and wounded in Texas and Ohio August 3 and 4.

Bishop Michael Burbidge, Bishop of the Diocese of Arlington, Virginia where NACPA is based, tweeted this: “Tragically, horrific shootings and violence continue in this country. May we be united in our prayers for all victims and their families.”
